We host educational programs throughout the year, from classes and hands-on workshops to a tour of the kitchen. For those interested in going deeper, we offer several intensive sessions, from one day to one week long, covering our nutritional and culinary practices, and our organizational and business model.

Kraut Making 101 (1/20/18, 10am - 12pm)

By what magic does salt preserve fresh vegetables and turn them into probiotic nutritional powerhouses? In this class, Three Stone Hearth’s lead fermenter and resident pickle master Andy Renard will reveal and revel in the tradition and craft of sauerkraut-making, as well as the science and nutrition behind it. This hands-on experience will teach you how to prepare delicious, live culture sauerkraut, as well as a "how to" on making your own DIY fermentation vessels for pennies on the dollar. Plus you’ll go home with a gallon jar of your own artisanal creation!

Andrew Renard has been making creative and delicious fermented foods and drinks for more than a decade. Always eager to try new things, his constantly evolving creations have added richness to our lineup of naturally fermented products.

A Tour of the Three Stone Hearth Kitchen (1/18/18, 11am-12pm)

How did Three Stone Hearth come into being as the nation’s first Community Supported Kitchen? Why were we making bone broth, kombucha and using mason jars years before they became trends? What goes into making our foods?

Join Co-Founder Jessica Prentice for an introduction to our business model, and a tour of our kitchen and fermentation “lab.”

Cost is $10 per person and includes a “shot” of kombucha or sauerkraut brine. The tour is open to groups and the public. If you want a tour only for your group, please send an email to education@threestonehearth.com.

Jessica Prentice is a Co-Founder of Three Stone Hearth, a co-creator of the Local Foods Wheel, and the author of the book, Full Moon Feast: Food and the Hunger for Connection. She has been studying traditional diets for over a decade and is passionate about the transformation of our food system.

How it works

1. Sign up here to register and reserve your spot in the class. Registration cost is $50. You must have an online account with Three Stone Hearth to register. You will receive a confirmation email with details.

2. When you initially register, in the “NOTES” section of your order, write in your pickup or delivery choice for your Broth and Beverage Package. Not familiar with all our pickup and delivery options? Visit our Pickup & Delivery page for full details. Participants are welcome to pick up on Wednesday, January 24th and join Joey for an introductory conversation between 5:30-6:30pm. Can't make it that evening? The webinar call the next day will cover all the introductory information as well.

By registering, you are agreeing to be charged for the Broth and Beverage Package on January 19th, at an additional cost of $199 plus $27 in refundable glass deposits, for a total of $226. 

3. On January 19th we will place an order for your Broth and Beverage Package, and we will charge your Three Stone Hearth account $226. You will receive an order receipt, along with more detailed information and guidelines about the Detox, including how to join the webinar call.

4. Get your Broths and Beverages and begin detoxing!

 

The fine print:

A Nutritional Therapist is not a substitute for your family physician or other appropriate healthcare provider. A Nutritional Therapist is not trained nor licensed to diagnose or treat pathological conditions, illnesses, injuries, or disease. If you are under the care of a healthcare provider, it is important that you inform them of any dietary changes you make. Nutritional therapy may alter your need for medication.

It is not possible to determine in advance how your system will react to dietary changes. It is your responsibility to use the nutrition guidelines outlined in this gentle detox to take care of your own body's needs.

 

Cancellation Policy (please read carefully):

Since the Broths and Beverages for the Detox will be charged to your account on Friday, January 19th, our cancellation policy shifts before and after that date.

If you cancel before 10am on January 19th, you may choose to receive a credit card refund for the $50 registration fee, or a $50 a credit on your Three Stone Hearth account.

If you cancel after 10am on January 19th and before 10am on Wednesday January 24th, we will credit your Three Stone Hearth account for the $50 registration fee, plus $199 for the cost of the Broths and Beverages and $27 for the glass deposits, for a total account credit of $276. There is no time limit on this credit, and you may spend it on other classes and workshops, products or gift credits for someone else.

If you cancel after 10am on Wednesday, January 24th, we will credit your TSH account as described above, minus a $25 restocking fee, for a total credit of $251.

If you can’t make your chosen pickup time and need to arrange a different time, email us at brothdetox@threstonehearth.com. If you don’t pick up your items by 3pm on Saturday, January 27th, and have not made other arrangements with us, we will credit your TSH account $251 as described above.

Ancestral Diets Day-long Intensive (2/10/18, 9:15am-3:00pm)

Three Stone Hearth co-founder and Mission Fairy Jessica Prentice offers a day-long exploration of the nutritional philosophy that underlies all our work: The Nutritional Wisdom of Ancestral Diets.

Jessica will cover:

• The studies and travels of Weston A. Price

• The eleven characteristics of ancestral diets that kept people healthy for thousands of years before industrialization

• Culturing and fermenting foods to increase enzymes and probiotic activity

• Processing grains and other seed foods to maximize nutritional benefit

• Sourcing meat, dairy and eggs from pasture-raised animals, and working with the whole animal, from nose to tail

• Incorporating traditional fats and Omega 3 fatty acids, and why they are so important to our health

This day-long intensive will take place at Three Stone Hearth, 1581 University Ave. Students will join TSH staff for lunch at midday, and have the opportunity to shop in our store during breaks.

Our Bodies and Food: Steps Toward a Healing Relationship (3/14-3/28, 5:30-7:30pm)

3 weeks, 1 class per week (2 hours)

This three-week series is an introduction to building a new relationship with mind, body, and food. We will explore ways of tuning into the wisdom of our bodies to discover what foods are good for us. The meetings will be experiential in nature, with topics determined by participants based on the needs and issues arising in the space that we will be holding for each other. As this is the first-time offering this series, if there is interest to continue, we will extend the length of the series.

Topics for this class might include:

1) Social beliefs and their impact on our self-worth

2) The nervous system and memory (of our lineage) held in our cells

3) Information and resources to heal from emotional eating habits

4) Ancient Hawaiian technique of forgiveness: "Hoo'ponopono"

5) Guided meditation

6) The chemistry of cravings and allergens in our body

6) Intuitive tools to "listen" to the body and the Higher Self

 

Rupam is an ordained minister through The Center for Spiritual Healing of Marin County. She comes from a long lineage of healers and medicine-makers in Germany, stretching back 13 generations. She has created her own line of herbal remedies and self-care products, and has given many classes and workshops at Three Stone hearth over the years. Rupam is passionate about supporting and empowering others on their path to self-healing.

Week-Long Kitchen & Business Intensive - Deposit (5/23/18 - 5/29/18)

Have you wondered what goes into creating the products we offer at Three Stone Hearth? Would you like to learn more about our cooperative business model? This week-long intensive is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the work and culture of our Community Supported Kitchen. The session includes six and a-half days of classes, presentations and hands-on learning. Best part: a nutrient-dense communal lunch with our staff is included each day.

The learning objectives and opportunities include:

  • Three Stone Hearth’s business model, including history, organizational governance, operations, and finances.

  • The tools and skills required to run a Community-Supported Kitchen.

  • The principles underlying our model:

    • The nutritional principles of traditional diets

    • The economic principles of worker cooperatives

    • The organizational principles of our governance system, Holacracy, and of self-managing and self-organizing approaches in general.

  • Hands-on experience in the kitchen. Learn how to cook community-scale recipes following a traditional diets approach.

  • Connecting with others who are interested in the model, as well as with those of us who have made this our livelihood.

We ask you to make a $150 deposit to save your spot by registering through our web site. You will receive more information regarding due dates once we have a minimum of five people registered for the intensive.
